In the first years of a foal's life, the foundations for a healthy locomotor system are laid. If the foal doesn't receive adequate nutrition appropriate to its needs, the bones and joints may not develop properly, becoming a permanent weakness that affects the locomotor system's lifelong endurance.

Supporting the Locomotive System
Bone and cartilage growth in foals are delicate processes that determine the strength and durability of the skeleton.
Joints play a pivotal role, especially articular cartilage (Hyaliner Gelenkknorpel), which:
Ensures smooth, friction-free movement.
Provides strength against pressure and flexibility. These properties are based on polysaccharides (GAGs), which absorb large amounts of water and form a gel-like surface that acts as a shock-absorbing cushion.
These GAGs are abundant in the medically approved New Zealand Green Oyster Extract (GLME, Biolane®).
Since blood flow in the cartilage of young horses is poor (and completely absent in adults), they rely on nutrients from the joint fluid and nutrition to support regeneration.

Scientific Proof
In a study at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, the positive effect of Follingold® Bone Care on musculoskeletal development was demonstrated at the epigenetic level. The young horses were divided into two groups:
Bone Care group: received Follingold® Bone Care in addition to the base ration.
Control group: received only the base ration.
Results:
Increased blood concentrations of certain signaling molecules associated with bone growth.
Increased activity of genes responsible for bone and cartilage growth.
Decreased activity of two proteins known to negatively affect the maturation of bone-forming cells.
X-rays showed a significant increase in bone density in the Bone Care group.
Result: A balanced, well-planned nutrition containing essential nutrients and ingredients effectively supports healthy, stable bone growth in foals.

Directions for Use

For young horses: Approximately 30 grams per day starting at six months of age.
For young pony foals: Approximately 15–20 grams per day starting at six months of age.
Note: Not to be used to cover full mineral requirements.

Feeding Guidelines

Because this supplement contains higher levels of vitamins and trace elements than complete feeds, it should only be fed to horses up to 0.6% of the total daily ration (including hay).

Please adhere to the specified feeding recommendations.

This supplement contains oyster meal, so it should not be fed to ruminants.
